LOUIS WAYLING

Waiting for Daylight Savings

Louis discovered his passion for painting at a young age, finding a profound outlet for his emotions on the canvas. At just nine years old, he won the Saturday Disney Art Prize, a pivotal moment in his early artistic journey. By eleven, he had already sold his first artwork for $100, marking the beginning of his professional path.

An ideal day for Louis starts with a coffee and a surf. He dedicates time to his studio every day, even on weekends, and makes a point to walk in nature, taking in the sights and birdwatching.

His 2022 exhibition, Lost Itinerary, showcased works inspired by his adventures and travels. The exhibition paid homage to the land we traverse, recognizing the footsteps of those who came before us. Louis views himself as a guest on this land, with a deep-seated gratitude rooted in the very soil he treads. This respect and reverence for nature and history are vividly reflected in his art, making each piece a testament to his commitment and passion.

The Sydney Affordable Art Fair in June 2024 was immensely successful for Louis, introducing his artwork to a whole new audience. The organizers asked him to bring in new pieces as his unique paintings and plates found delighted new owners. His originality and quirkiness, combined with a touch of nostalgia, proved to be very popular with the Sydney audience. We’re sure that Melbourne will love him just as much at the upcoming Melbourne Affordable Art Fair.
