KAZ BURTON

Arcadia

My artistic journey is deeply rooted in the mesmerizing rhythms of nature, where leaves, flowers, and foliage become enchanting dancers, whispering their cryptic tales to those who listen. Drawn to the spikey resilience of certain Australian native and tropical plants, their bold presence mirrored in the mythologised Australian psyche, they resonate with an inner strength that defies convention. Paradoxically, I find myself captivated by the delicate intricacies found in the ornate masterpieces of Bonnard and Klimt. Can these seemingly opposing forces harmonize within my work? Can the robustness of the spiky species coexist with the ethereal beauty of intricate patterns? I believe they can. For in the juxtaposition of these contrasts lies a tapestry of complexity that mirrors the richness of life itself.

Drawing inspiration from the legacy of artists such as Matisse, Mitchell, and de Kooning, I seek to infuse my paintings with a sense of movement and vitality. Like Mitchell’s dynamic brushstrokes or Bonnard’s intimate portrayals of domesticity, I strive to capture the essence of life’s perpetual dance – a delicate balance between chaos and order.

In my quest for expression, I am guided by the belief that beauty lies not only in perfection but also in imperfection – in the subtle interplay of mess and refinement. I aim to weave together elements of spontaneity and control, creating a visual symphony that resonates with both movement and serenity. It is through this delicate balancing act that I hope to evoke a sense of wonder and harmony in the hearts of those who encounter my work.”
